Kees Turnhout is a captain in the Royal Netherlands Navy. He served an operational career on board of many frigates, mine hunters and other naval vessels. He graduated in mathematics and political science, with a specialization in International Affairs.
Between 2006-2010 he was military advisor of the Dutch Minister of Defense on international security subjects. In his present job he is staff officer and advisor on business administration for the Commander in Chief of the Royal Netherlands Navy in Den Helder.
Kees Turnhout is chair of the Local Team that did the local preparations to organize the INS Congress in Den Helder. He will contribute to the congress by a presentation on the present tasks and composition of the Royal Netherlands Navy. He will place this in both, a historical perspective and a long term strategic foresight of the importance of the maritime dimension for the Netherlands.
