The Great Romantics: Napoleon in Lord Byron's Poetry

This paper considers Lord Byron and Napoleon against the background of Romanticism. Through the analysis of Lord Byron’s poetry dedicated to Napoleon and various features of Napoleon’s personality, the paper suggests that, notwithstanding the devotion of Lord Byron to the idea of liberty, he was passionate admirer of Napoleon, first of all due to his glory and grandeur. With respect to Napoleon, this paper contends that he was the representative of romanticism.
