It is my pleasure to welcome you to the official website of the International Napoleonic Society (INS).

The INS promotes the study of the Napoleonic Era in accordance with proper academic standards. To this end, the INS honors the leading minds in this field by making them Fellows of the INS (FINS), and brings them together to present their research and discuss the research of others. The INS is a nonprofit educational body, organized under the authority of the Government of Canada.

The Napoleonic Epoch is one of the most fascinating – and important – in history. Ben Weider recognized this, and founded the International Napoleonic Society to promote greater and more accurate understanding of Napoleon and his times. To this end, we hold International Napoleonic Congresses that bring together scholars from around the world. We have held these congresses in Canada, France  Italy, Israel, Georgia, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland and Russia. Future plans include Belgium, Cuba, Ireland and  St Helena, as well as France, Germany, Spain, the United States and other locations.

INS President,
J. David Markham
Chevalier dans l'Ordre des
Palmes Académiques

We have produced a journal and a website as venues for the presentation of scholarly research. We have underwritten, with Ben's kind generosity, a chair devoted to Napoleonic studies at the Institute on Napoleon and the French Revolution at Florida State University. We also encourage the publication of important research and the translation of important documents through our Literary Award and the Legion of Merit.

As a Napoleonic scholar and author of several books on Napoleon, including Napoleon for Dummies, The Road to St Helena: Napoleon After Waterloo, and Napoleon and Dr Verling on St Helena, as well as co-hosting the Napoleon 101 podcast, I am very proud of the important contributions of the International Napoleonic Society.

This website reflects all that we do and I invite you to explore what we have to offer. If you have any questions or would like to offer assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me via email or letter.
